What is the best porn video for me?
That should be the very first question anybody should ask when deciding which movie to buy. Clearly, what's good for some may not be good for you. What are you after? What do you like? story lines? young women? MILF? anal sex? a particular fetish? outdoor sex? high production values? long movies (4 hours)? Gonzo????
You name it, there's a movie about it.
We have all heard other people say "all porn is the same", but if you consider what I've already mentioned, and if you add to the mix the different performers, directors, production companies, etc. you'll realise that "one size fits all" certainly doesn't apply to porn.
But before we go into more detail, let me share with you some of the general guidelines that I have been able to identify after watching literally hundreds of adult movies and writing reviews for other web sites:
Don't judge the porn by its cover:
So true when it comes to porn, just because a beautiful looking set of boobs or the wonderfully positioned ass of your favorite porn star is masterfully displayed (after a few minutes under photo shop of course) in the cover of that DVD, that doesn't make the actual content of the movie as hot. But I know, I've been guilty of the same sin in the past, and that's because we are visual animals. After all, that's what you would do in your local brick and mortar porn shop right?
Well, that's one of the advantages of the internet, if you invest just a little bit of effort you can get more information about that movie that caught your eye.
A number of web sites on the internet offer screen shots of the movies you are interested in, you can start by checking the web site of the studio that produced that movie. Studios like Private, Evil Angel and Zero Tolerance to name a few, have screen shots, trailers or both in their web sites. And even though they generally show the best parts, they are always a better insight of what you can expect inside.
Become familiar with the porn studios:
Even though some studios produce a variety of adult titles every month, most will specialise in a particular genre or at list the directors that work for that studio will. For example, if you are into a porn flick with a story line you may want to try DVD's from studios like Vivid, Wicked or Adam & Eve, if you are into all-sex or Gonzo style movies you may be interested in Evil Angel, Anabolic or Diabolic, if you want to see beautifully european babes and high production values then studios like Private come to mind. Cheaper/longer doesn't necessarily mean better :
That is perhaps the single most common mistake that pornsumers make when buying porn, specially the first few times. Budget porn (say, under $20) will give you exactly what you pay for, it will generally mean a substandard experience. You should also fight the temptation to buy 4-6 hour long movies as quantity doesn't mean quality. Those movies are almost always compilation of older titles and usually offer poor video and audio quality as they are trying to cram as much content in the DVD as possible, some studios Vivid DVD will even add promotional content like adult sex phone services to the mix and count it as part of the movie. I would rather buy one good adult movie than 2 poor quality ones or enjoy 2 hours of good porn than 4 hours of sub-standard filler-grade recompilations that's for sure.
Inform yourself :
By reading adult DVD guides such as this one, reviews and comparing prices among different adult web sites you will be in a better position to select the right DVD for you. There is only a limited number of quality adult DVD web sites in Australia and so it will not take a lot of your time to do that. The disadvantage of buying from Australian sites is that they seldom keep up to date with new releases, on the other hand, international retailers have a far greater variety and if you are ready to wait a little bit longer, then you may end up saving over all, as even though shipping is higher, the prices of the movies is generally lower.
